Posted in Verapamil on 02 Mar, 2019 - 12:43 pm

Hi all,

I’m into another bout of CH... been about 2 weeks and a half.
Started off fairly weak and slowly getting more painful but I would say about 7 or 8 out of 10 in terms of pain.
My previous episode, almost 4 years ago, I was prescribed 160mg SR of verapamil everyday.
This seemed to work within 3 days (I think he was surprised that it started being effective within 3 days) and ended up taking it for 2-3 weeks only.

My new neuro suggested that may have been a too high of a dose, for me personally, so suggested I start 90mg per day now.

Has anyone ever started this low?
I’ve taken my first half cap today.

Hi Bus_wrecker,

Sorry to hear this.
I too suffer from CH.
I’ve previously had luck on a low dose of verapamil, this was 3 yrs ago and now in another cycle of CH.
it’s been 2 weeks in and luckily for me, they haven’t been as painful as my last however it does seem to be getting more and more painful.
Verapamil is a preventative however it started working within a few days for me last time.
I’m seeing the neuro today and suspect I’ll be back on a low dose of verapamil.

Good luck to you and your wife

I want to stop taking verapamil but have read not to abruptly stop taking. Has anyone here had any experience?
I've only been taking for about 2-3 weeks at 160mg per day.
Shouldn't be any issues in stopping now?

Thanks ellcee for the warning, sorry to hear what happened to you. Sounds frightening!!!!
Thankfully anything like that hasn't yet happened.
I've had 2 sessions so far and can thankfully say I haven't had any CH since however I have it's now been 2 weeks on verapamil.
So probably a coincidence however when I last had CH I had the same treatment in accupuncture and it seemed to work.
Fingers crossed. I'll try anything with such pain!!!!
I'm just not sure when and how I can stop my verapamil....

All the best

Can someone please assist?
I've been on verapamil for 2 weeks on 160mg SR everyday.
I now haven't had a CH for 1 week.

Are there any issues in abruptly stopping verapamil?
What are the issues?
I've read yiu shouldn't stop if taking long term.

Thank yiu

Thanks for the response Bruce.
I'm seeing some success in reducing the frequency.
It's been a month into my cycle and about 2 weeks in on my verapamil and down to about 2 per week now.
Much better than everyday!

Hi Greg,

I'm seeing one end of this month.
Currently on a low dose of Verapamil, seems to have reduced to 2-3 per week.

I'm currently trying accupuncture though. Had one last Friday and due for another tomorrow.
Fingers crossed I see improvements and I can stop taking verapamil.

Ill keep you informed on both.

I'm also on:

Butterbur
Feverfew
Boswellia
Ubiquinol
Fish oil
Magnesium

Don't care which of the above is helping, drugs or natural, as long as something is working!

Hi Tanya,

How did you go?

I've been reading that you shouldn't be taking high doses of D3 with Verapamil, unsure how they interact though.

I really want to try the D3 therapy however currently taking Vera so a little concerned

Hi Guys,

Have recently been diagnosed with CH (3-4 per week) and have since been prescribed Verapamil - 160mg SR & Imigran Spray - 10mg (can't believe how expensive this is)

My preference is to knock this out with natural supplements but its now starting to effect work and my social life.

Does anyone know if its safe to take Verapamil - along with:

- Ubiquinol - 300mg ED
- Boswellia - 500mg x 3 ED
- Feverfew and Butterbur ED
- Fishoil - 2.7g of EPA & DHA.

I've read that you shouldn't take Vit D along with Vera however couldn't find any studies to support.

Has anyone else tried both prescription with natural?
