Good morning,

I have been a member & supplier of Oxygen cylinders to CH sufferers since 2012. I just wanted to let everyone know that my CH clients have all reported back that the use of Oxygen to treat their pain has been like some sort of miracle drug. Most stop using all the painkillers/preventative drugs & just use the Oxygen.

I never heard of CH until a sufferer contacted me 2 years ago. It is a baffling, horrific condition that you suffer. The similarities between my clients is amazing & yet they are all very different in their own ways.

If you havent tried Oxygen as a treatment yet, please do. It doesn't have any of the side effects of the strong drugs that you try. I'm not just saying this because its a new sale for me, I genuinely want to help.

Supagas (Aeris Medical) has free delivery to most areas of Vic, Tas, NT, WA & SA. Cost is low compared to what some of the drugs cost that you use.
Give us a call on 1300 063 342 or Kay 0404 626 455

Do I need a prescription? I went to my doc yesterday and he told me that I would have to see a neurologist in order to get a prescription! I don't exactly want to pay $200 just to have someone write a note. This post was edited on 24/11/2014 at 8:39 am

Hi Mattyess

Lol, yes you do need a prescription but most GP's seem happy to hand them out. What State do you live in? I have a few GP's in Melbourne I can recommend.

That would be great Kay! My family GP is no longer around, and the guy I saw yesterday was no help. I was literally just writing a post asking this question.

I live in Reservoir in Melbourne. So any GP's with good knowledge of CH, willing to prescribe oxygen and practising in the Northern suburbs would be awesome!!!

PS If they bulk bill that would also be great. I'm in between jobs, and really hard for me to find work when debilitated by the beast,

You could try another local GP - go armed with printed information.
The Doc I have been recommending is Dr Hilary Hunt - Epworth Richmond. I dont know what she charges but I have had several CH sufferers recommend her saying she was absolutely wonderful.

She's a neurologist, so she will be about the same price. But still good to get a recommendation of someone who knows how to properly diagnose and treat CH. But maybe I'll write that post after all ;)

And yeah, I went to my local GP armed with information, he had even heard of oxygen treatment, but wasn't willing to prescribe it.This post was edited on 24/11/2014 at 9:31 am

Ask a few others on the site....hopefully one of them have a GP you could use. Let me know too because I'm compiling a list. It's amazing how many guys have the same problem as you & end up asking me if I know anyone.

I would recommend a D or an E sized cyl as you need to use the O2 on a fairly high flow. To give you an idea, a D sized cylinder costs $39.00 plus a monthly rental fee of $12.00. You will also need to rent a regulator $15.00 per month.

Let me know how you go

The neurologist my GP referred me to isn't taking new patients and Dr Helen Hunt's earliest appointment isn't for 3 months!

Hi Aurorab,

Yes I can help you. We have a branch in Darwin.
I have around 50 CH clients now & O2 works for every one of them.

I will need a Doctors prescription though. Have you managed to get one as yet? If so, I just need a copy & all your details & then we can deliver your O2.

I am currently at a rehab conference so can't call you but you can email me kaytebby@supagas.com.au.

Hi guys I myself suffer ch have had 3 today already, I am 1 of the lucky ones I only usually get them once a year. I have never tried oxygen what I use to do was drink the strongest burbon 6 in an hr and pass out to sleep, it worked for many yrs, I can't do that forever but for now for some reason I've found that when I have one I jump in the shower and it's as hot as I can handle right on my head and it makes the pain bearable while it's in full swing until it goes away, I have found with me if my sleep patterns change like I have 2 kids now so up at all different hrs it brings them on, I have said for yrs that it's sleep related and only ever come on after drastic changes in sleep. Hope this helps as it helps me, there has to be better ideas then taking tablets that don't work.

There is no doubt that OXYGEN in a high flow is very beneficial for acute cluster headache.

The sufferer not only needs oxygen ,but a high flow mask that delivers about 8-10 Litres per minute. This is far higher than for chest disease.

It seems that oxygen has a yet unknown therapeutic effect. I agree ,that while some aspects of O2 therapy are expensive ,they can be cheaper than drugs-secondly has few side effects.

Cluster headache is about as common as MS but gets very little publicity.

Oxygen therapy is a treatment that delivers oxygen gas for you to breathe. You can receive oxygen therapy from tubes resting in your nose, a face mask, or a tube placed in your trachea, or windpipe. This treatment increases the amount of oxygen your lungs receive and deliver to your blood.
