Hi, this is my first topic. My name is Matthew and I'm suffering from my first bout of cluster headache currently. I'm 35 years old and very healthy and fit otherwise. Needless to say, this condition has brought me to my knees. My question is this: How do you get access to O2 for pain relief? My neurologist who diagnosed me suggested various treatments, gave me a script for Maxalt tabs. He also suggested oxygen but gave no script for it.
I saw my gp last week, he changed to to Replex tablets. When I asked about O2 he said I would need to access that through hospital emergency. I know that can't be right. I'm a single dad with no local family- I can't drive down to emergency at 2am in the middle of an attack. Frustrated...

Hi Matt I'm so sorry you've been diagnosed. I've been told the same thing about oxygen - I couldn't even get into a car during an attack even with someone to drive me - some doctors just don't get it. Others say to me - have you got the pain now? Omg if I had the pain I wouldn't be sitting up talking to them normally! Unfortunately they told me only lung disease sufferers can get oxygen tanks. I'm on Deralin 40mg migraine preventative now I think it's helped - they are less intense and go quicker. I'm an episodic and I'm just past 4 week mark this time so hoping they'll be gone soon.

Hi fellow sufferers, it's been 32 days now where I've had CHs every single day and night. I don't know whether it's me getting older but I just can't stand it any more and it seems to be the worst bout ever. I've had about 3 a day but at least I'm not getting them in the middle of the night anymore, only when I wake up. Why do you think we have to go through this pain everyday? It's ruining my life completely I can't enjoy anything. I can see why they're called suicide headaches. No one understands the severity of them either - they ask if you've had panadol.. Luckily I have an extremely supportive husband who's been doing everything poor thing.. Well I just had to vent. Tomorrow we are moving to Kirra semi retirement but I'm not even excited I can't enjoy it after working for 35 years. Mel,, 1st November 2014

You can receive oxygen therapy from tubes resting in your nose, a face mask, or a tube placed in your trachea, or windpipe. This treatment increases the amount of oxygen your lungs receive and deliver to your blood.

Hi guys,

I got on oxygen therapy through my gp. It wasn't hard, she just wrote a referral letter to BOC healthcare who delivered my first cylinder and gave me a short safety course around keeping and using oxygen in the home. Hope this helps, if your GP is difficult I suggest trying a new one.

Best of luck.
