Not currently suffering :D
Hi all,

I’m into another bout of CH... been about 2 weeks and a half.
Started off fairly weak and slowly getting more painful but I would say about 7 or 8 out of 10 in terms of pain.
My previous episode, almost 4 years ago, I was prescribed 160mg SR of verapamil everyday.
This seemed to work within 3 days (I think he was surprised that it started being effective within 3 days) and ended up taking it for 2-3 weeks only.

My new neuro suggested that may have been a too high of a dose, for me personally, so suggested I start 90mg per day now.

Has anyone ever started this low?
I’ve taken my first half cap today. This post was edited on 02/03/2019 at 12:44 pm

Hi,
I started on 180SR and I’m currently nagging my neuro to double it.
Just remember though, medications work differently for everyone.

I'm taking 1 x 80 mg Verapamil tablet every 8 hours, (so, 240 mg per day) and 50mg of prednisolone once a day. Started working on day 2. Not sign of CH or shadows since day 2.This post was edited on 21/10/2020 at 2:01 pm

Verapamil 180SR once in the morning. Hasn’t slowed frequency, but I think it lowered pain (9-10/10 to 7-10/10) and duration of headaches. I am hopefully going to double dose to what Roger’s is.
I really bloody wish these idiots at the therapeutic goods association would allow some proper oxygen therapy, kills the headaches dead in minutes (did turn oxygen up when the nurse walked out).

It's been 3 weeks now, and this is the first cluster where I have managed to keep them away every day (except one, where I forgot to take the prednisolone that morning. I am weaning off the prednisolone now, as the verapamil dose increases. The prescription says to increase it by half a tablet every week until I am taking 2 x 80mg tablets, 3 times a day (so total = 480 mg a day)

I'm so relieved it is keeping them away!

Only another 3 weeks to go before they will likely be gone again for a few years. I WISH I had done this last time i got them... I can't believe I just suffered through 2 attacks a day for 6 weeks with only hit and miss imigran spray to help!
