My husband is the one who suffers so horribly. For years we have believed he has had Trigeminal Neuralgia, another nightmare pain condition. But several things that occur do not line up with Trigeminal Neuralgia. For instance, the horrible pain will jolt him out of a sound sleep; he often loses his vision in his right eye during an attack; his right eyelid droops and the pupil goes to a pinpoint; he has unrelenting constant burning pain always, with the ice pick attacks happening episodically. Sudden loud or sharp noises can easily trigger an attack. MRIs have shown nothing. His entire life has been controlled by this terrible affliction for eight years now.
