Cluster Headache Intensity Scale

  1. Slight twinge of the CH type of pain. Shadows.
  2. Normal headache type of intensity. Annoying, but life is still beautiful.
  3. Shadows are getting constant but can deal with it.
  4. Higher level of pain than normal headache. Interferes with normal life.
  5. Starting to get bad, want to be left alone to deal with it.
  6. Need to pace and move and drive your fist into your temple.
  7. Major non-stop pain, left feeling exhausted after it finally leaves.
  8. Immense paid, time to yell, bang head, rock, whatever works. Fear that it won't stop.
  9. The "Why me?" syndrome starts to set in.
  10. Screaming, head banging. Hospital trip. Depressed. Suicidal.

Really bad for about an hour and then wouldn't go right away for another two. Ice and heat.

Took Imigran straight away so could get sleep.

Another one that was really intense for about 25 minutes before tapering off.

Exhausted so just took an Imigran injection so I could get more sleep.

Took Imigran injection straight away. Was bad - injection took longer to work than usual.

Took Imigran nasal spray. Took ages to work - only really took the edge off the attack. Not fully effective.

Just wouldn't go away. Couldn't take Imigran - had already had enough for the day.

Didn't take any meds. Saved up injection so I could play golf. Absolutely rooted after golf.

Fairly consistent level of pain at the moment. Nasty but not wanting to pull all my teeth out bad. Again, got through without meds.

Tight and searing stabs of pain, but was able to find a 'spot' which meant I didn't have to have meds. Was proud of myself.


Monday 05 July, 2010: 6.45am - 7.30 am

Not much relief between attacks. First use of Imigran nasal spray. Got some relief, not as good as injection.


Monday 05 July, 2010: 3.14am - 4.13am

First 'real' one after a week of shadows. Ice and heat and lots of swearing. No meds.
