I am starting to really understand why they are nicknamed suicide headaches. I finally got an appointment to a neuro who told me i had tension headaches because it is impossible for females to get cluster headaches. He gave me anti depressants and sent me on my way, i am really frustrated at the lack of understanding of the way this affects lives. I am trying to get through my diploma of nursing with two small children and although im determined to do it i am at breaking point. I feel sorry for my children because i have lost all patience and cannot get out there and play with them anymore because i am so drained physicaly and mentally. I just want some help.

I was starting to think there was no hope of ever having a headache free day, but 5 days ago there was a miracle. I woke up in the morning without a headache, but of course was waiting for it as for the past 3 and a half years i have had a constant throbbing head. I was waiting all day and it never came . This has happened for the last 5 days and i have had a headache or mabey two but not of the cluster kind, it was about a 1 and was relieved by a couple of panadol ha ha yes panadol. Funnily enough i stopped taking the sandomigran the day before as i felt all it was doing was causing massive weight gain ( I wouldnt have minded if they worked) and not helping with the headaches. So no meds and no headaches, mabey this is the light at the end of a very long dark tunnel.Im really hoping im in a long remission period, i think i deserve it after over 3 years in hell. Just like that they have stopped as quickly as they started and CH my nasty friend i dont miss you one bit.

well thought i would give an update. I thought the meds were working but about a week ago a CH about 9 on the pain scale struck. Now i have gone back to the all day pain hough the intensity varies as the CH's come and go. Was given a injection of tramol with no effect on the pain, sure it knocked me out but i woke with the bugger still just as bad. I woke with the Ch at about 6am and didnt have complete relief until at least 7pm. With the major pain being broken into 2 bouts of about three hours with the shadows in between. sad back to the drawinsg board i guess. Any suggestions as to what works for you so that mabey i can go to the drs armed with some info .

Does anyone experience blurred vision on the side of the attack. I get it everytime without fail that warns me my headache is about to get a whole lot worse. It is like there is a film of something over my eye that i cant see through properly , its hard to explain its not over the entire eye more like a splodge.
That probably makes no sense, but does anyone experience any type of blurred vision i one eye.

I also started suffering at about this age if it is ch's he is very lucky he has been diagnosed so young as i suffered for 15 years before i was diagnosed.
Good luck

Sorry Roger i have written the wrong thing i have been in the chronic stage for over three years now so waiting for that amount of time wasnt really a issue , at least there was light at the end of the tunnel (thankfully the sandomigran are beginning to kick in ).
Heather thankfully although i have headaches constantly the pain is rarely a 10 ( every couple of weeks) but more a 5-7 on the pain scale . I have been taking mercyndol constantly for years , it didn't work but i guess in my head it was worth trying something than doing nothing . It wasn't until i stopped taking pain meds for a couple of days that i realized it was the headache easing off not the medication working .I have now realised i nearly always get them at the same time everyday . I wake up with one, get one around lunch then again at about 7 pm.
Today though i am quite optimistic i woke with a headache but since that has lifted no more headaches. Lets hope they go completely, i forgot what it was like to be normal.
ITS FANTASTIC

thanks for all our support, it's great to know im not alone. My GP diagnosed me and has prescribed me sandomigran , i wasn't very hopeful as they didnt seem to be doing anything.
today though its now 10.40 and i can feel a slight ache coming on and hopefully it stays that way. I started taking them about a week and a half ago and was told it would take about 7 days to start working and 6 weeks for the full effect. If after that time i still have headaches i will be getting a referral to a specialist , are there any that you can recommend in the sydney area ?

Posted in IT'S ALL IN HER HEAD on 02 Aug, 2010 - 10:48 am

I feel like i am reading my own story here as i have also had them all my life . My mother is very understanding but my partner on the other and has no compassion for my condition , yes it is all in my head and was just addicted to pain meds . I am so glad that i finally have an answer and am hoping for some relief now that i know whats going on and can be treated for it . I have just started taking sandomigran but have yet to have a pain free day , if they dont work i will be demanding to see a neurologist . I can sympothise with you as i have 3 year old twins and have been in the acute stage for three years now .

Hi my names Irene and i have just joined this site , i am so grateful there is a site like this as i don't feel so alone now.
I have had severe headaches for as long as i can remember , they were always thought to be migraines. As i got older the patterns of my headaches started to appear , i always thought i had a problem with my neck as the pain radiates from my neck . I would have headaches for weeks at a time and then they would just stop(i always though my neck must have gone back into place ) and i wouldn't have a headaches for weeks then they would come back , this pattern went on for years.About 3 years ago my headaches became acute for months i was waiting for them to stops as usual , but months turned into years. I went to a doctor about a year into the constant headaches, I was given blood tests, CT scans, physio and beta blockers but nothing helped. This whole time i was constantly taking strong pain meds ,after i would take them the pain would subside after a while but i have come to realize it was not the pain meds working it was just the CH dying down. The pain never really goes away the severity just fluctuates from a roaring headache to a dull ache the severe pain coming on at least 4 timed a day. When the pain is really bad pain killers wont do anything. What led to my diagnosis was a severe headache a couple of weeks ago , the worst one i have ever experienced . I went to the dr begging for some relieve and he gave me nothing , sent me for all the same tests i have previously had. My mum was searching online to see what could help me when she came across CH's ,it all suddenly made sense i had all the symptoms . I went to another dr who confirmed this , i am now taking sandomigran and have been for about a week now they seem to be lessening the severity and frequency but i am still having headaches so will be going to the drs to see if my dosage needs to be changed.
